1. Log into UTmail+ via a web browser.
2. Click your user icon and choose My account.
   
3. In the Overview tab, click Manage in the Office apps block.
   
4. Click Install Office in the next screen. You may be required to allow the software to be downloaded.
5. If you see the Save window, choose a location and click Save File to save the .exe setup file.
   
6. Double-click the .exe file to begin the installation. In the security screen, click Yes to continue with the installation.
   
7. A Microsoft Office progress screen will appear. Once it finishes, click Close.
   
8. Open one of the newly installed apps, such as Word. Upon launch you will be prompted to allow updates to be automatically installed. Click Accept to continue.
   
9. You will see the Sign in screen, or, if it does not appear automatically, click Sign in in the upper right corner and the Sign in screen will appear. Enter your U of T email address and click Next.
   
10. You will be redirected to the University of Toronto Weblogin page. Enter your UTORid and password and click Log in.
    
    
11. Office will complete activation, after which you can use the software.

Daniels Minecraft – Winter/Spring 2021

In partnership with the University of Toronto eSports, the Daniels Faculty is delivering a Saturday/Sunday half-day online Minecraft program for Winter 2021.

Daniels Minecraft program uses your participant’s love of Minecraft to explore the fundamentals of design and architecture, while building teamwork and communication skills. The Daniels Minecraft Winter programming will be streamed into two levels, Level 1: Architecture and Building & Level 2: World Building & Game Design.

Both levels allow participants to be online alongside mentors working on activities that are collaborative, creative, and conducive to building problem-solving skills. Participants will develop the fundamentals of visual thinking, urban planning, gaming and environmental planning while creating their own levels, worlds, games and elaborate environments in Minecraft. Participants will play some classic Minecraft games liked bed wars, hunger games and spleef to learn about the gamification of the biomes with their teams. We will have 5 participants with 1 leader.

Daniels Bootcamp: Exploring Careers in Design Online – Summer 2020

In response to the COVID-19 social distancing rules and the cancellation of all summer programming at New College, International Programs Office (NCIPO), we have transitioned our Daniels Bootcamp to an online program. Participants will leave the program understanding the fundamentals of architectural design, architectural education, and related career paths.

The Daniels Bootcamp runs from Monday to Friday for three weeks, and is comprised of lectures and studio exercises from 9 AM – 11 AM, a break from 11 AM – 1 PM, and a studio component from 1 – 4 PM. This program aims to give students greater exposure to the concepts and approaches to design within the architectural design industry, and give them experience with the intensive studio culture that characterizes most architecture programs. During the program, the students will build up a collection of drawings and models that will complement an admissions portfolio. The online course will have some synchronous and asynchronous content and will be flexible to allow participants from different time zones to participate.

The Daniels Summer Academy also offers other summer enrichment programs for younger students ages 8 –14 and these are now being offered online as well. More information can be found on the Daniels Summer Academy website.

The Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program (DEEP) is designed for highly motivated high school students with an aptitude for science and math. DEEP provides students from around the world with the opportunity for advanced study in a variety of engineering, technology, business and science disciplines.

DEEP Summer Academy offers a wide variety of courses to students. While we have broken down our course offerings into several streams related by areas of study and subject matter, students are not only welcome but encouraged to select from any of the various course offerings. DEEP Spring Seminar Series is modeled after DEEP Summer Academy. The DEEP Spring Seminar Series schedule (two weeks) is designed to give students the full DEEP Summer Academy (four weeks) experience in just two weeks! Course length is halved to allow each student to complete up to four courses in the two weeks of DEEP Spring Seminar Series. Students living in residence will take part in an enhanced excursion program. There are different options for the timing of courses in order to accommodate students who may have exams or other prior commitments.

Registration for Session One and Two are separate. Participants do not need to register for both sessions. Please read the course descriptions carefully to see which courses are offered to which grade group.

Please note that our Engineering High School program does not offer an in-depth investigation of a single-topic area. Motivated students interested in condensed study in a particular discipline should consider our DEEP Summer Academy program.

All classes run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with a short break at halfway point at the instructor’s discretion. Students are welcome to arrive from 12:30pm onwards.

Engineering Leadership to Inspire Further Education (EngLIFE) is a free 4-week program targeting Black/African/Afro-Canadian high school students who have expressed interest in STEM, potentially curious to learn more about Engineering and hope to further their education after high school.

The goal of this program is provide and nurture opportunity for students to further enhance their leadership skills, to be exposed to various fields of engineering, and to explore the life and opportunities of a U of T Engineering Student. Through our collaborative partnership with John Polanyi Collegiate, we are able to offer this program that allows participants to:

• Learn STEM theories and principles through hands-on design workshop experiences
• Develop greater understanding of the various fields of engineering and the potential
career opportunities
• Develop leadership skills in communication, interpersonal relations, teamwork, and
conflict management and apply those skills in a range of settings.
• Be exposed to the various Faculty and University supports for students
• Gain access to a University student mentor
• Learn pathways to various post-secondary STEM education options
• Earn a credit towards their high school diploma (GPP)

Blueprint is an academic enrichment program that was designed for highly motivated black students in Grades 10 and 11 who are interested in careers in Science, Technology Engineering and Math with a strong interest in Engineering. The program includes 5 weeks of summer programming and yearlong student engagement including monthly webinars and scheduled meet-ups. Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art teaching facilities and labs at Canada’s top engineering school and have the opportunity to hear from students and researchers in the fields.

This program runs from July 6th– August 7th. Our course features a selection of inspiring lectures, current research discussions, hands-on activities and field trips. The last week of the program is Design and Innovation Week, where students get to explore the engineering design process and stretch their imaginations to create solutions to real-world problems. Students will leave with a basic understanding of the skills required to be in a STEM career specifically Engineering.

Unfortunately, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, all in-person scheduled aspects of the Blueprint program will be moved online.

UC Summer Drama for International Students introduces participants to training that is offered in a post secondary theatre program.

Intensive workshops in voice, movement, performance, improv, stage combat or electronic sound/music design begin each day. During afternoon sessions, students participate in “Embodied English” classes. A unique ESL program developed at the University of Toronto that uses theatrical techniques to improve intonation, vocabulary and articulation. For native English speakers, additional theatrical workshops would be provided in the afternoons. Evenings and weekends allow members of our team to take the students out to explore Toronto’s rich and diverse cultural and artistic scene.

Our program culminates in a Closing Ceremony where students present what they’ve worked on during their stay with us.

Virtual InternationalSummer Academy

Due to COVID-19, the in-person International EnglishPrograms (IEP) and Pre-University Programs (PreU) have been cancelled for thesummer of 2020. In place of these programs, we have launched the VirtualInternational Summer Academy (Virtual ISA).

The Pre-University programs are designed to prepare students and expose them to the skills and critical thinking required at the university level. The GCP in particular is modelled using project-based learning, where students will tackle a Global Challenge over the course of three weeks, working in small teams to research and address world issues, formulate a solution, culminating in a final project presentation at the end of the program.

Students will take morning Communication Classes and afternoon Global Citizenship Workshops, learning about different methods of critical thinking and analysis, as well as practical application of those skills. As an all-inclusive residential program, students will also participate in evening activities and weekend excursions during the program. This program accepts both international and domestic students, and has a minimum English level requirement, as there will be no English language support during the program. The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) provides an opportunity forstudents to challenge themselves in an academic university setting during thesummer months. Designed for high school students with a strong level ofEnglish, the Advanced Academic Program will immerse students in engagingprojects and discussions using course material and activities typical of aCanadian educational institution.

During this 4-week all-inclusive program, students will beimmersed in an English language environment at Canada’s top university, andlearn about, analyze, and discuss a range of concepts related to the subjectthey are taking. The Engineering UniversityPreparation is a summer program that is designed for international high schoolstudents with an interest in engineering and a strong command of English. Inpartnership with the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, this programchallenges students in engineering topics from biomedical studies to roboticsto artificial intelligence through individual and group work, modeled aftertypical university assignments.

During this 4-weekall-inclusive program, students will be immersed in an English languageenvironment at Canada’s top engineering faculty and gain a deeper understandingof engineering fields. While developing leadership, interpersonalcommunications, and teamwork, students will work in groups and develop designthinking and understanding in the engineering design process. The Science Unlimited Program offers a series of workshops from the Departments of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Math, Physics and the School of the Environment to expose students to different research and topics in STEM. Math Academy is Toronto’s most elite math course for high-school-aged students. Students compete for a place by writing a challenging problem set designed to assess the creativity of their mathematical thinking. New curriculum is delivered each session and is non-overlapping with the Ontario math curriculum. Throughout the week, students will delve deeply into a topic, giving them a glimpse of what math is like at the university level. The problem set will be posted early in the new year each year and due the first weekend in February.

In partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, every summer the University of Toronto Faculty of Law offers high school students from across North America and around the world a unique summer camp opportunity to explore their curiosity and interests in the field of law. During the Law YSP, students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12 can spend between one and five weeks at the law school discussing advanced legal concepts, learning about the reality of the Canadian legal system, and applying their knowledge in a variety of simulations. For high school students interested in law and legal issues, the Law YSP offers an unprecedented opportunity to spend time in the fascinating world of Canadian and international law, legal thinking and advocacy.

The camp is scheduled to run over seven weeks from June 29 – August 14 2020 based on the following weekly modules: Criminal Law, Law and Politics, International Law, Corporate Law, and Trial Advocacy.

During the Med YSP, students currently enrolled in grades 10 to 12 can spend between one and four weeks at the Faculty of Medicine experiencing the world of medicine and medical research. There are four one-week modules offered, each introducing a major medical discipline. During the program, students will go through a series of lectures and teaching labs, as well as interact with leading medical professionals in the field.

Math Circles runs every Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 pm, and is aimed at engaging students who are interested in Math and would like to challenge themselves. Students will work together with professors and department members on puzzles and problems from a wide range of fields within mathematics, while developing problem solving skills and understanding of research techniques.

Summer Camp at the beautiful University of Toronto Mississauga Campus. We offer a wide range of sport and recreation-based camps as well as academic themed opportunities for children and youth aged 4-16.

Our youth programming focuses on building the leaders of tomorrow with Leadership Camps (levels I & II) for youth aged 14-16. These camps are two-week programs focused on developing communication, team building and cooperation skills through activities such as overnight camping trips and rock climbing as well as shadowing and teaching lessons in our sport and recreation-based camps. Our newest camp, SciBiz offers youth aged 12-14 the chance to explore their interests in science and business, all while experiencing the fun recreational activities that summer camp has to offer!

A key goal is to support teens in developing the capacity to examine local, global and intercultural issues and appreciate the perspectives and world views of others. They will engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with people from different cultures and develop action-oriented networking and communication skills (OECD, PISA 2018 Global Competencies).

Students learn in state-of-the art classrooms with world class University of Toronto professors and student mentors who support and deliver academic planning, leadership skill and language development workshops. Participants select a subject area of interest including medicine and health, entrepreneurship, finance, business, technology, innovation or environmental sustainability. In their subject classes they tackle problems, think critically working and learning in a research intensive setting with University of Toronto faculty.

Participants in the Learn to Lead program live on campus where they will make connections and build relationships with students their age from around the world. They will enjoy a variety of educational tours of local sites along with outdoor activities, sports, music and cultural experiences.

A University of Toronto Certificate is awarded upon completion of the program.

Children’s Virtual Programs

This year marks the first summer season that UTSC will offer a diverse curriculum of virtual cams for children that greatly resemble the traditional on-campus programs offered each summer. The virtual camps offered are Baking, Cooking, STEAM Lego, Magic Science, Adventure Camp, Visual Arts, Arts and Crafts, Indigenous programming, Dance, Yoga and Robotics. All virtual camps and programs are conducted online using the Zoom Video Conferencing platform, with the exception of the Robotics program, which will operate on a software system similar to Zoom. Virtual programs will operate for a duration of 1-3 hours per day and are facilitated by U of T Scarborough staff, alumni, community partners and program leaders.
