Reading and school achievement at home. They have traveled a lot, and bring rich background experiences to school. As part of my job, I pull out small groups of students in grades 1-3 who are reading below grade level. I work with them several times a week for 20 minute guided reading sessions in addition to their classroom instruction. Since guided reading is a rather difficult and complicated process I usually leave substitutes with lessons and activities that can be taught to the whole class. So, I'm really looking forward to working with my small groups again this week. Today we had a staff development day.

How does understanding how systems operate help you make sense of what happened?
I think understanding how systems work helped me to understand the type of community this was. Understanding how systems operate brought the community’s strengths to the forefront. Once they got what they wanted the university was forced into a new agreement and no changes could be made without the consent of the neighborhood.
Organizing and organizations- “One person can start an organized effort but change that affects more than one person requires the involvement of more than one person” (Homan, 48). When people come together for a common purpose, they can usually achieve what they came together for. When Camy and the people who stayed behind in their neighborhood, found out they were about to lose their homes, they all joined together against the university. They all stuck together, they keep track of things, they even exposed the university to the media. They used several different tactics to get the attention of the university.
Action- “People will act for change only if they are uncomfortable enough with the current circumstances or excited enough by a new possibility” (Homan, 49). Camy and the people in his neighborhood were being forced out of their homes. This was an uncomfortable circumstance. They all acted together as one to save their homes. Forming the alliance against the university was one action they took, bringing out details about the university to the media and political leaders was another action.
What did the neighborhood have that could make the university respond?
I think the neighborhood had a few things that

Never leave your true path. “No good can ever come from deviating from the path that you were. Motivation Starts With Passion This was my spark. What started off as a terrible event, actually gave me the opportunity to meet all these amazing people, and develop an intense passion for discovering more about them and their countries. And so I started. Difference between passion and motivation. Passion is one of the reason behind motivation. From another perspective, Motivation is the Desire or willingness to do something; enthusiasm. Motivation is Internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal. Having personal motivation and a passion for what you do has several advantages: It keeps you fired up and motivated It makes what you are doing fun You can be an inspiration to others.
